Queer/Bar Keeps Seattle’s Capitol Hill Drag Scene in Motion
The queer-owned Capitol Hill bar opened in 2017 and continues to center regular drag performances, local nightlife and visiting talent.

In Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood, Queer/Bar has built its identity around queer nightlife and regular drag performances since opening in 2017. The queer-owned business took over the space formerly occupied by Purr Cocktail Lounge, another gay bar that later relocated.
The venue’s name is commonly styled as Queer/Bar, and its programming has included performers connected to the national drag scene as well as the broader Seattle community. Robbie Turner has served as the bar’s entertainment director. Turner is also known for competing on RuPaul’s Drag Race, while other performers associated with the franchise have appeared at the venue, including Bosco, Irene Dubois and Arrietty.
Their appearances correspond to seasons 14, 15 and 17 of the television competition, respectively. For a Capitol Hill bar, that connection adds a recognizable national thread to a nightlife space rooted in Seattle’s queer community. The regular drag schedule remains a central part of Queer/Bar’s public identity.
Food has also been part of the venue’s offering. In late 2018, Queer/Bar began serving sandwiches from Sunset Fried Chicken, adding a local food component to the bar experience. The partnership placed fried-chicken sandwiches alongside the venue’s drinks and entertainment rather than presenting the bar solely as a performance space.
Queer/Bar’s programming has continued to develop over time. In November 2025, the bar announced plans to host Christmas Dive Bar for an eight-week run. The seasonal event had previously taken place at The Woods, another Seattle nightlife venue. The announcement marked a change in location for the event while keeping it within the city’s existing queer nightlife ecosystem.
Taken together, the bar’s history reflects several layers of Seattle LGBTQ+ nightlife: a queer-owned business taking over a space associated with a previous gay bar, a standing calendar of drag shows, ties to nationally recognized performers and partnerships that extend beyond drinks. Its Capitol Hill location places those elements in one of the city’s established centers for queer bars and entertainment.
Queer/Bar is therefore more than a replacement tenant in the former Purr Cocktail Lounge space. Since 2017, it has developed its own role through entertainment leadership, drag programming, food service and seasonal events such as Christmas Dive Bar. For Seattle residents and visitors looking for queer-centered nightlife, those features define the venue’s place in the city’s bar scene.
